I’m going to be completely honest here, when I was assigned Twilight of the True Blood Vampire Diaries by Gary Ghislain, I was disappointed. The cover didn’t grab me and I wasn’t interested in reading another vampire story. I opened the book not expecting much. After reading the first page, I WAS HOOKED!!! I am so thankful I was assigned this book because otherwise, I would’ve missed out on a well-written, hysterical, fun read!

Elise is an off-beat teenager in love with Johan Devreau, the most popular boy in high school who doesn’t even know she exists. When a creepy new kid comes to town, he befriends Elise and she is turned into a vampire. Elise shows up at a party where Johan is. After saving his life, Johan is ditching his girlfriend to follow Elise. Little does Johan know that Elise is not only a vampire, but that a strong, sadistic vampire is Elise’s master—and he wants Johan dead. In order to survive, Elise and Johan must find a way to destroy the master vampire.

The story is broken into four sections: Elise, Johan, Gary, and Arno. I wasn’t expecting the story to switch POVs, but it ended up working out well and I enjoyed it. The book has a Buffy the Vampire Slayer feel to it, meaning it’s filled with witty dialogue and a lot of action. There is a love story, but it’s not the driving force of the book.

I absolutely fell in love with the dialogue. I really appreciate reading dialogue that’s fresh, flows, and authentic. And I was constantly laughing out loud!! So if you’re looking for a fresh, funny, unique vampire horror story, Twilight of the True Blood Vampire Diaries is for you!!

I’d like to thank Got to Read Those Books for the books swap, and Gary Ghislain for writing such a fun book and sharing it with me!
