Breathless (Jason and Azazel #1) is a Young Adult paranormal romance story by V.J. Chambers. It is a well written story that kept me glued to the pages.
“They’d put me in situations that I should never have had to face. They’d introduced terror into my life. But at one time, I’d loved them. and I think, in their own perverse way, they’d loved me too.”
Azazel is a seventeen year-old girl living in a small town. Her life is pretty much like most seventeen year old’s. She goes to school and is thinking about the future. Azazel has a boyfriend, but there is one problem they have she can’t wrap her head around. They have been dating for a long time but he doesn’t want to sleep with her. Azazel is doubting herself. Is something wrong with her? Doesn’t he really love her?
Her life takes a wild turn when she and her boyfriend find a boy – who is running for his life -on their way home. He is running for someone but doesn’t want to tell them who that person is. They decide to take him home – he has nowhere to go – and Azazel’s parents take him in. Azazel soon learns his name is Jason, and he doesn’t want them to take him in. He says it’s to dangerous, that the people who’re after him will hurt them too.
“I’m going to choose to trust what I know about you, what I know about us. You are the best thing that ever happened to me. You’re strong and moral and kind and wonderful. And nothing that some crazy woman said could ever diminish what you mean to me.”
Azazel is curious about Jason. Who is this guy? What is his story? And her boyfriend is getting jealous. She doesn’t know what to think anymore. And then people in town start to act weird. Telling her everything will change after the Halloween homecoming dance. On that night Azazel discovers nothing has been what it seemed to be. Even the people who love her, who she loves, betrayed her. It has all been set up. All those years. It’s been a lie. Jason and Azazel manage to escape, but they’re forever hunted…
Breathless will take you on a wild ride. Just when you think you’ve got it all figured out the whole story changes. The weird boy found at the side of the road made me think of the tv show Kyle XY. It is a very well written story. I think me having a hard time trying to write a synopsis of this story is a big compliment: there is something happening on every page. And that is the thing that kept me glued to the pages. But even though I really liked the story I felt it was missing something. I don’t exactly now what is was missing, but I guess it was the so-called ‘it-factor’.
